The Shropshire Historic Churches Trust (SHCT) is a registered charity (No 1010690) and its officials and helpers are all unpaid volunteers. The purpose of the SHCT is to:
consider grant applications from churches and chapels of all Christian denominations for essential repair and preservation work; some contents, fixtures and fittings may also qualify for assistance. These grants help keep buildings open not only for worship and community use but also as quiet places for prayer and reflection.
encourage interest in the heritage of our churches, appealing to all those who recognise the unique contribution that churches, big and small, their curiosities and stories, make to our English countryside and landscape.
Our Aim
Our aim is to raise awareness of the SHCT and its work through tours and events.
At an appropriate service of worship we present a certificate and cheque to the recipient church or chapel being awarded a grant. This gives us an opportunity to tell congregations about our work and to invite new members to join the Trust.
Constitution
The SHCT was set up by a Declaration of Trust dated 12th November 1991, 'having no fewer than four or twenty-five trustees'. Trustees meet quarterly to consider grant applications from churches and chapels throughout Shropshire. Trustees serve for five years but are eligible for re-election.
Accounts
The audited accounts are available upon request to info@shropshirehct.org.uk.
